Cycling
Cycling
along the paths, over the hillsides, and through the villages of Ayrshire
is one of the best ways to experience the real Ayrshire. A number of safe
and convenient cycleways are available near Hillhouse, including 2 National
Cycle Routes.
An innovative scheme, Bike by Bus, has seen the fitting of cycle carriers to the buses on 3 routes allowing greater access to rural areas.
Windsurfing/Kitesurfing
The beaches at Troon and Barassie offer some of the finest windsurfing and kitesurfing available the UK. The sandy beaches face in different directions and are sailable in most wind directions - the prevailing SW wind is cross-shore.
Walking
Throughout
Ayrshire there are walks to suit everybody - beaches, fields, forests,
gardens parkland any much more. There are many waymarked walks near Hillhouse
which form part of the Ayrshire Paths network and our staff will be delighted
to help you find a walk which suits you.
From Troon the Barassie beach runs all the way to Irvine to the North and the Troon beach to Ayr to the South.
Hillwalking
Although
the highest peak in Scotland, Ben Nevis, is just 4406feet (1344m) Scotland
is acknowledged to have some of the most stunning hill walking and mountaineering
routes in the world. The fickle nature of the Scottish weather means that
even the 'easiest' of routes should not be undertaken lightly.
One of the most stunning peaks to climb is Goatfell (2866feet) on the Isle of Arran where upon reaching the top you will be rewarded by spectacular views of the island and, on a clear day, across to Ben Lomond, Jura and the coast of Ireland
Fishing
Scotland
is a prominent fishing destination and the Hillhouse staff will be delighted
to help find a fishing venue nearby to suit your taste. There are 2 stocked
fishing lochs nearby as well as the possibility of river fishing for salmon
on the Doon, Girvan or Stinchar rivers.
Horse Riding/Trekking/Polo
There
are excellent equestrian facilities located close to Hillhouse suitable
for all ages and ability of rider. Our general manager will be on hand
to assist you in selecting the correct equestrian centre to match your
experience.
Hillhouse is also located within 20 minutes drive of Stewarton Polo Club.
A thriving club where the beginner or the experienced polo player can
all enjoy the sport of kings! Currently with more female members than
men the club is at the forefront of developing the sport in Scotland.
Sailing
The
west coast of Scotland offers some of the finest sailing waters in the
whole of the United Kingdom. The marinas at Troon, Largs and Inverkip
are between 5 and 30 minutes drive from Hillhouse offer access to the
water on all sizes and types of craft.
Shooting
Dalry,
a town approximately 25 minutes drive from Hillhouse is home to the North
Ayrshire Shooting ground which offers first class all-weather shooting
facilities. Skeet, trap and sporting disciplines are all catered for alongside
an indoor archery facility.
Stalking, quad bikes, archery and falconry are all available nearby and we will be delighted to assist in arranging these and any other activities you may wish to participate in.
